Beautiful Landscapes

My brother-in-law, Matthew, is a wonderful landscape photographer in Sonoma County. He truly has a gift of capturing nature's beauty.
Matt just started a blog (after I kept bugging him to do so). I know he has had a chance to work with a few famed landscape photographers, and he is well on his way to becoming one too.
If you are at all interested in photographing nature, or even if you aren't please stop by his blog. I am sure he would be happy to answer any questions you have.
Also, leave a comment, I really want him to continue to post on his blog with all his beautiful images, and I know if you left a comment it would give him reason to!

My best friend

We met in 9th grade French class and have been friends ever since. It's not everyday that you find a friend that you can confide your crazy thoughts to and know that they will understand exactly what you mean, even if it doesn't come out right.
Stacy has been through everything with me, and yet she still is my friend.
I love her for her thoughtfullness, caring heart, beautiful spirit, honesty, giving nature, creative genius and so many other things.
Thanks for being so wonderful girl. I couldn't be where I am without you!
Love ya!

-This photo was taken New Year's Eve by the fabulous Mark Koehler, you may have heard of him :)

The Force is with you

Yesterday, Aiden was in his crib getting ready for a nap. I came in to check on him and he had pulled his hood on his head. Normally he doesn't like having it on but he kept it that way.
I quickly grabbed my camera.
I love this image. Such a sweet face!

Looking to "shoot" people

The New Year is here, and that has inspired me to be more creative with my photography. I would like to photograph people who are willing to let me be creative in whatever setting.
I am looking for women, men, kids, seniors and babies.
I can only take a limited number of people, so if you are interested contact me ASAP.
-You will receive a disc with some images on it for allowing me to photograph you.

Email me at meli@melissakoehlerphotography.com
if you are interested.
Thanks everyone!

Self Portrait

So, today I tried doing some self-portraits. This is something I would like to do from time to time. Just for fun. Maybe I should submit these to a magazine, what do you think?
Untitled-1

-I am totally kidding about the magazine. Good grief that would be horrible.
**I am working on getting my Christmas Eve shots up. I have them done and they are on my flickr account I just need to post them here. VERY SOON!

Christmas Part 1

I hope that everyone had a wonderful Christmas! We just returned last night from our annual Christmas trip to Northern California. Since this post has so many pictures in it I am breaking up the rest of our trip into another post, maybe two.
On the 23rd we all went to the Redwoods and then to Santa Cruz. It was so beautiful and cold.

I did it!

I joined the land of myspace. It took me forever because I was so hesitant to do it. It's been fun connecting with other photographers and old friends.
If you have a myspace add me as a friend. If anyone has any tips to make my page look better I would appreciate it too. I feel like such a nerd

Commentary of Aiden

This is the second attempt at doing a photoshoot with the shirt Aiden is wearing. It is worthy of a photoshoot, because well, it's so awesome! One of Mark and my favorite movies is Anchorman. Aiden is wearing, " I'm kind of a big deal". If you have seen the movie you will find the humor in this. If not, rent the movie:)

-So, for these next series of pictures I am feeling compelled to do commentary on what Aiden would say if he could talk.

1299
-Finally, alone without that camera in my face.

1292
- I just don't understand why you need to climb on the couch without me mommy. I want you to hold me!

1291
- Is that what my shirt says? It couldn't be more right. I am so cute! Don't pretend like you aren't impressed.

1289
-Seriously mom, I am tired of this. Get the camera out of my face!

1288
-Are you kidding me? You really have to take a picture of me while I am breaking for water? You are crazy mom!

1286
-I just won Publisher's Clearing House!!! I am so excited! I am going to Disneyland!

1294
-Do you get a prize for putting all of these in your mouth at once? I will be the champion.

-Have a great day everyone.
Thank you so much to all of you that have left comments and written emails to me. You are all so wonderful!
xoxo

Keeping it real...

Normally I use this blog to post pictures and talk about Aiden. Today I am feeling like being open with all of you :)
Christmas is such a wonderful time of year. I really do love it! But, this year I am not in the Christmas spirit. Things that are beyond our control are occuring and it is making it difficult to be excited about Christmas.

This is the time where I need to sit back and remember what the true meaning of Christmas is about and not focus on being caught up in gift giving.

-This photo was taken by my good friend Amber Dawn.

The most important thing to remember is that I have my family. We are all healthy and happy. Remembering these things makes me smile. Thank you for listening and for allowing me to be open. I find it difficult to really do that on a blog, but thought that I would do it today.

-On a sidenote, one of my pictures was chosen as photo of the day at Pink Ink Studios. I am always so honored

Thanks everyone

Photographer's lunch

Thursday I met with some of San Diego's finest photographers :)
It's always fun with Masen, The Ohana's, Jaime and Aaron. We met at a local Japanese restaurant called Chopstix. I really enjoy getting together with this group because we can talk about anything we want. Masen always offers lots of advice and Kimi always makes me laugh!
I can't wait to hang with you all again!

-I had to leave for a photoshoot before the group shot was taken :( So, Masen photoshopped me in. What a nice guy. Thanks Masen!

It's been a while....

I have been reminded by family and friends that I haven't posted a picture of Aiden on my blog for a while. Sorry, I have been so busy with sessions that I forgot :)
We had fun playing today. He is getting so much fun! I just love my little boy!

10,000

Wow, my little blog has hit over 10,000! That is crazy! Thank you to all my loyal readers for stopping by. When I started this blog I really had no idea what would come of it. I really enjoy posting and seeing people's comments. It makes my day :)
Thank you to everyone that comments, stops by or even just reads my blog!
I am hoping that I will be better about posting after the New Year.
Even though my Holiday sessions have been wrapped up I am still busy.
Here is a picture from one of my most recent sessions. I'm not sure if I will be posting any others due to it being a boudoir shoot.
I love doing these shoots! They are so much fun!

-Thanks again to everyone! Have a great Monday!

Starting to look like Christmas

1, originally uploaded by melissakoehlerphotography.

Hi everyone! I took a few pictures of some of our Christmas decorations. We don't have our tree yet.
Our Christmas decorations got ruined in Arizona. I am so sad!!!! So, I had to buy a few new ones.
Here are a few pictures of the decorations around our place. I realize I went a little crazy with Santa and the geese. I had fun! :)

Nothing exciting, but it is starting to feel like Christmas here! I love this time of year! I really love baking things around Christmas. Maybe I will start doing that more.
Have a great day!

Thanks for looking!
